I own both these movies. I love them. They are both good movies that deal with teen girls dealing with life and its many changes. What a girl wants has some amazing songs by oliver james. Coline Firth does such a wonderful job in this movie as well. Amanda Bynes is well...Amanda Bynes. Chasing Liberty I like because it shows a girl taking off and chasing adventure and freedom, something we would all like to be able to do.

For a teenage chickflick, I really loved this movie! Amanda Bynes is a great actress. She's down to earth, funny and has a great personality. The characters that she portrays in movies are very similar to the characters she plays in TV Shows. Nonetheless, she's amazing at the roles that she plays.

I've grown up watching Amanda on Nickeloden, then WB, and now movies. I like that she's down to earth and not at all stuck up or prissy!

Overall, this is a great comedy especially for a teenage date.

After working on the Amanda Show on the First Season as Lobster #2, the show is HOT!!!! I still love tuning into the NICKELODEON channel and watching.

Amanda Bynes is nothing less than Super and all of the cast was so great. That is why this show deserves a ***** rating.

Love it,

Tom Huben

For some reason, Shakespeare translates very well to modern high school. I think it's the social cliques and emotions running high. I think this is one of the funnier adaptations, along the lines of "10 Things I Hate About You," but with the story line for "Twelfth Night" instead of "Taming of the Shrew."

The actors didn't hold back on the comedy, the adaptation is well written, and the story is a classic. I actually think the disguises make more sense than in the original play; where in the original, people actually got the twins mixed up, in this adaptation, no one who knew either of them really well got a good look at Viola when she was being Sebastian.

There were lots of nice references back to the original, as well: Duke's speech at the end, the spider "Malvolio," Cesario's pizza place.

If you like Shakespeare or teenage romantic comedies OR sports movies, I would recommend this one!

My kids love Amanda Bynes and we've been slowly collecting her various DVDs. We have Vol. 1 of The Amanda Show and Vol. 2 is just as funny for adults & kids alike. Also, if you are a Drake & Josh fan (which my kids are also) there is plenty of screentime for them here as well as Amanda. Great DVD and I find myself laughing at it as much as my kids!

Hairspray (Two-Disc Shake & Shimmy Edition) [Blu-ray] (Blu-ray)
By John Travolta

`Hairspray' is a non-stop, exhilarating song and dance extravaganza. This exuberant remake of the John Waters' musical is funny, fast, and fabulous. Adam Shankman's direction is appropriately lilting in the right measure, but balanced with social commentary highlights. Unlike 'Dreamgirls,' there are no Oscar worthy performances, but the production is so fun there doesn't have to be. The entertainment is winning on every level, and, as for the songs, it never goes limp.

Once again we are transported to the early sixties in Baltimore, where flannel is uniform, Blacks and Whites are segregated, and beehives are in fashion. The plot is fairly simple: Overweight teen Tracy Turnblad (Nikki Blonsky) wants to break the mold on her favorite TV program "The Corny Collins Show" (an "American Bandstand"-like feature) while discovering a more urgent need to end segregation on a show that only sometimes features "Negro Night". She gets her big break when teen singing sensation, Link Larkin (Zac Efron) makes advances that bring her to the stage floor. In the meantime, her success is challenged by the show's program manager, (played with overbearing skill by Michelle Pfeiffer) and her daughter, Amber, the show's reigning "Miss Teenage Hairspray," a nasty nemesis . Joining forces with her Afro-American friends, especially Motormouth Maybelle (Queen Latifah) and dancer Seaweed (Elijah Kelly), she works for equal time on the dance floor.

`Hairspray' is set as perfect entertainment. John Travolta provides likable loopiness as Nikki's mother while he dances and cross-dresses his way into our hearts. The villains are nasty enough, and the sweetness pervades even amongst important demonstrations on key social issues. When it all comes down to balance, 'Hairspray' fills the bill.

What a Girl Wants (Keepcase) (DVD)

Yes this is a predictable, happily ever after film. It is nothing like the awful Princess Diaries (which this film has been compared). Because of this comnparison I didn't bother seeing "What a girl Wants" in the theater. I am pleased to say that this is one of those films which is just fun to watch. It wasn't meant to change the world but is entertainment that the entire family can see together. Amanda Byrnes and Colin Firth are wonderful together as father and daughter. Kelly Preston is beautiful in the part of Daphne's mother. In my opinion this film is more like a cross between: Cinderella (because of the future evil step-sister), Snow White (because Amanda finds her prince), and Parent Trap (because....can't say because that would be giving the end away).

Sydney White (Full Screen Edition) (DVD)
By Amanda Bynes

Sydney White is a modern-day Snow White whose story unfolds on the campus of the college her deceased mother attended. Sydney is a legacy pledge for her mother's sorority, but circumstances prevent her from becoming a "sister". Instead, Sydney moves in with the "Seven Dorks" of "The Vortex" - the house that sucks in all of the losers! These actors had me in tears because I was laughing so hard! Each one beautifully portrayed one of the fairy tale dwarf personas. The charming Prince (Matt Long, "Ghost Rider") even awakens the sleeping princess with a kiss.

Amanda Bynes was her usual comical self. John Schneider is always a welcome addition to any screen. Sara Paxton is outstanding as Rachel Witchburn. Crystal Hunt, Jack Carpenter, Jeremy Howard, Adam Hendershott, Danny Strong, Samm Levine, Donte Bonner are an outstanding supporting cast. Arnie Pantoja steals the show as the "Dopey"-est dork! This was the sweetest family film! Some sexual references and college party scenes make it appropriate for teenagers and older. I can't wait for it to be available for purchase on DVD!

What a Girl Wants (Widescreen Edition) (Snap Case) (DVD)
By Amanda Bynes

My friends saw the coming attractions for this movie a number of months ago. When they saw that it starred Colin Firth, they all shouted at the screen, "What Peggy Wants." I'm a confirmed firth-a-holic. But, I thought this movie might be another "Thousand Acres" and so waited til it came out on DVD to see it.

This is not great art or even great cinema. But, hell, it's a lot of fun! And many times that's what I crave from a movie.

The true acting comes from Mr. Firth who is perfectly cast as the English gentleman who would be PM -- and looks a bit like Tony Blair to boot.

His wild past with an American rock singer comes to an end that is full of deception. And 17 years later his daughter from that past comes to find her dad.

Amanda Bynes is cute. She doesn't really need to act. Still, the on screen chemistry between she and Firth brings out some potentially amazing talent in this adorable young lady.

There's a lot of good humor and the music ain't bad either.

The scene where Firth dons leather pants and dances in front of the mirror is imspired.

For trivia buffs -- Anna Chancelor plays Mr. Firth's fiancee who is in it for the political prestige. Some may recognize her as the unmarried Miss Bingley from the A&E/BBC Pride and Prejudice. She's a great character actress. She doesn't get him in this story, either.

And -- was it my imagination that her stuck up daughter (Clarissa) bears such a striking resemblance to Reese Witherspoon? Reese played Firth's ward in The Importance of Being Earnest.

Ok. Final thoughts. It's a fun movie. As with Bridget Jones's Diary -- it's also a feel good movie -- and those are the ones I tend to watch again and again. Granted: Bridget Jones is an example of great film as well as a fun movie.
